Constellation Exercise

Collaboration and conceptions of community

Teams rely on relationship-building opportunities in order to coalesce and thrive. Team work means working in efficient cooperation with other people. Reducing uncertainty (Berger and Calabrese 1975) and promoting social exchange (Homans 1958) are crucial interpersonal skills for remote teams as they work together to achieve a collective goal. In this context, building interpersonal relationships is an essential component of intercultural learning and work.

Teamthink Constellation

This exercise reveals how each teammate thinks about working on a team, how we might approach a project in different ways. This is a collaborative scatterplot, where we combine and plot our numerical selections for a particular dimension.

Through these conversations, the team can collectively approach project management while accounting for similarities and differences. The exercise also promotes self-reflection and, at the same time, acknowledge a wide range of working and learning styles, ultimately improves mutual understanding and compassion, and leads to peaceful and productive collaboration.
